(Sorry kinda long) just to give a brief history, I broke the rubber shifter plate bracket in my Z at the track (shifter kill #1) about 2-3 months ago here in gainesville. Last night I was cruising around town after leaving the local import meet with Vik around midnight. Vik was being a nice guy and letting me drive his TTZ w/ new short shifter, since I'm letting my mom borrow my car. So we are stopped at a light next to an early model F-150 lightning and the guy takes off when the light turns green. I went ahead and hit it in 1st gear and went to shift into 2nd (very gingerly) and then hit it. The car revs, we don't accelerate any faster. Then I feel that I can move the shifter in a complete range of motion (oops). Luckily we were movin pretty good from me boostin hard in 1st that we coasted in neutral (shifter broke in the neutral position) off the road and into a neigborhood where we parked the car. We immediately called a good friend of Vik and I,(Greg, poor kid got out of bed and came to where we were, then Vik sent him home) Good thing Vik had a tool kit in the back of his Z. We proceeded to remove the broken shifter there and wait for the 240SX guys to show up for a ride back to Viks place where he had a spare shifter. Before we go on to my bad luck with shifters, you have to know that the short shifter in Viks car was designed, and produced by a certain (Fabrication whore) person here in Gainesville. Saying that, I would like to lift some of the blame off of my shoulders. We get the shifter out just as Brian shows up to give us a ride. Sure enough the shifter had broke right where it had been rewelded. Brian takes us to Viks real quick and we then return to put the stock shifter back in the car. As we are putting it in, a few more guys show up to the scene and give us a hand with it. By the time we get the DAMN BOLT through the bottow of the shifter it is 2:30 in the morning. That bolt took forever to get in!! But anyhow, we get it back together and let one of the 240 guys drive Viks car around to feel the power of the ttz. We all went out cruising after the ordeal and had some good ol back road fun. I must say after driving Brit's 240 that is modded, I am pretty impressed with it!! (he has a very nice car). Vik, Brian, Brit, Justin, and I had some good fun last night after we got Viks car fixed. Got home at 4:30 a.m. and then went to school at 9:00, so now I am sleep deprived!!! Sorry for the length, but I just thought it was kind of funny that I have 2 300ZX shifter kills under my belt in a time span of 3 months. Well everyone have a very good Friday and weekend!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Chris Phillips 1990 stage 1 NA coupe
